Waling Waling Flowers from Davao

"If you happen to love orchids then this place is an absolute must-see.  And did I mention that the orchids here are priced 30%-50% lower than those being sold in Manila and Tagaytay? No wonder my boss bought plenty of these lovely orchids. The people at Waling Flower House are so used to having buyers from Manila and they know how to properly package these fragile blooms for air travel.  Now for those planning to buy orchids from Davao, it’s best to check them in early at the airport because they have to go through a quarantine test.  But if you prefer a worry-free shopping for Waling Waling orchids, you can order them online at Orchid.ph which is being managed by the Puentespina Orchids & Tropical Plants, Inc., the very same company that owns the flower shop we visited ..." - Leah de Leon of Brightspot

"Although hard to come by, I was fortunate enough to come across the chocolate tablet produced by Rex Puentespina of Malagos Farm, with their farms based in Davao. I found their cocoa to be of a quality that makes for a smoother texture---valuable to making excellent cakes and pastries..."  By Heny Sison (owns and teaches at the Heny Sison Culinary School. "My eyes are increasingly drawn to things that are glaringly different. That can be a good or a bad thing. I was at the wholesale warehouse of Waling-Waling Orchids or Puentespina Farms at the Manila Seedling Bank in Quezon City the other day, and they were chockfull of “Fall” pumpkins and decorative gourds..."  By Marketman of Market Manila.

ORCHID FARM

"Located in front of Malagos Garden Resort, along Calinan-Baguio road, the beautiful Davao Orchid Farm is a florist/hobbyist delight. There are ornamental plants and native orchid collections. "Unknown to many, Davao produces one of, if not, the best cheese in the country today. These high quality artisan cheese are handmade by Malagos Farmhouse of the Puentespina family of Davao City and are gaining popularity in our local market and being regarded abroad to be at par or even tastier than the imported European and Australian cheeses..." Olive Puentespina’s Malagos Cheeses

By Anonymous Paul on 5 December, 2011

I had first been aware of Malagos Cheeses a couple years back from other articles and being able to taste a bit here and there in random restaurant menus. But it was only this year that I got to sample a lot more from a “cheese care package” sent over by a friend from Davao..."

You’d be forgiven if you thought we had gone on a surgical strike to France to acquire some pungent cheeses over the weekend… But these wonderful cheeses were just a few of the 8 or so varieties that a friend brought back from Davao. Yes, DAVAO! I read about the efforts of a cheesemonger in Davao a year or so ago in a Cebu magazine, and was intrigued, but have never come across their products until this abundance of cheese was delivered to our doorstep courtesy of a very generous friend and fellow food fanatic. Produced by Malagos Farmhouse, I was stunned to see the cheeses up close for the first time. Stunned."  By Marketman of Market Manila.
